About the two formats

SVG: Built from shapes instead of pixels, so it stays sharp at any size. Converting turns it into pixels at one fixed size.

JPG: The standard choice for photos. Files are small and every app can open them. It can't store transparent backgrounds.

JPG and JPEG are the same format. The two extensions are interchangeable, and .jpg is the more common of the two. If a form has asked you for one and you have the other, rename it here rather than converting it.

The whole conversion happens in your browser. Your file is unpacked into raw pixels and saved again as JPG. Nothing is sent to any server.

Is the SVG to JPG converter free?

Does converting SVG to JPG lose quality?

A little, because JPG saves space by throwing away detail the eye is least likely to miss, while SVG keeps every pixel exactly. At the default quality of 90 most people can't tell the two apart on a photo. Flat colour, sharp edges and text suffer the most, so lower the quality slider only while you're watching the preview.

What happens to a transparent background when I convert SVG to JPG?

It gets filled in. JPG has no way to store transparency, so every see-through pixel has to become a real colour. White is used unless you pick another one under the preview, and picking the colour of the page the image will sit on is usually what you want. If you need to keep the transparency, convert to PNG or WebP instead.

Will the JPG file be smaller than the SVG?

No, expect it to be a good deal bigger. JPG stores images far less efficiently than SVG, so only convert when something genuinely needs JPG. Compress the result afterwards if you have to send it anywhere.
