The middle is what survives, so if the important part is off to one side, crop it yourself first and then come back here.
What if my image is smaller than 1080 by 1920?
It gets enlarged to fit, and enlarging always costs sharpness, because the extra pixels have to be invented from the ones already there. It will still be exactly the right size, it just won't be as crisp as the same picture from a larger original. Start from the biggest version you have whenever you can.
