Why is my image still bigger than 50KB?

Turn on downscaling and it will reduce the dimensions as well, which is almost always the better looking answer, since a smaller picture at decent quality beats a large one that has been crushed.
How much quality will I lose getting down to 50KB?

A soft photograph compresses beautifully and may look untouched, while a screenshot full of text and flat colour shows the damage quickly at the same file size.
